 Why I love what I do

Artist Midnite/Mary Ann Schmidt born:Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Age 4:fascinated with ART...mother Reta enrolled her in pottery class & by age 5 she was painting American Flags & lady bugs on black stones from her yard. Her high-school art teacher has influenced her to pursue her art: Mr.Will Roberts displayed her talent which earned her the release of her first work of art at the library.. Newspaper article featuring her art on exhibit- Door County Advocate. Mary Ann , a student of Julie Gebauer, has acquired her excellent Professional Calligraphy skills from Julie Gebauer Calligraphy Handwriting Course.

While studying art & fashion at the University of Wisconsin Stout-started her tiny company called “Exposed Designs”-featuring:"one of a kind"- hand-made jewelry/oversized painted t-shirts on display at: “University of Wisconsin STOUT” gift store, Farmers Market, high-end boutiques:Los Angeles, Texas, Florida,Palm Desert Art Fair. 18 she received scholarship to study abroad- London, England:“The American College of Applied Arts London”. Transferring to “The American College of Applied Arts Los Angeles”-1991 graduated top honors -Bachelor of Art’s Degree in Fashion and Business. Worked at companies:Lillie Rubin/Sales, Cache/Mgmt,Fred Segal/Mgmt.

In 1998 she continued her acting career, member of S.A.G. & AFTRA. As executive producer of her music company:SMV,Inc. Mary Ann started working with multi-platinum music producer KarEnsemble. Designing art posters for Shaquille O’Neal’s “Shaq’tacular” children’s foundation:Shreveport,Louisiana. Mary Ann's celebrity clients: CBS “The Price Is Right”:Dian Parkinson,“The Wheel of Fortune”:Mrs. Pat Sajek, “WKRP in Cincinnati” actress Loni Anderson, ”The Biggest Loser” Fitness Trainer:Jillian Michaels, Lisa Marie Presley, and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. 

Obsessed with neon vibrant pop-art colors, soft pastels, vintage style fonts, urban silver & gold grunge with graffiti style spray-painted funk art-incorporated into her eccentric pieces of work.  Her sense of style has a pop vintage rock’n’roll edge. Her strive for perfection has assured the highest quality result for everything she has attempted, from designing cement masks to eccentric furniture to art pieces her new projects include:Lucky Cigar Boxes. The competitive nature of her character has led her through a successful career, and after traveling the world at age 9 she still draws inspiration from her worldly travels.

Midnite’s body of work is divided into two categories: unique funk celebrity mugshots(vintage/new), eccentric furniture art works (old/new wood pieces). Midnite’s originals are usually acrylic on canvas, vintage or new canvas. She is known for using old newspaper articles, vintage advertisements’ and incorporating them into her art.   Midnite’s compositions blend loud bright colors that possess a feeling of freedom with powerful dark figures which set off a dark mood. Midnite’s attempt to create pure “art with an edge” is what has made her works so universally appealing.
